IKR? And still in 2023. Please don’t let us still have these reasons to talk about this in 2033.
You know. I spent years fighting it and trying to make it better before I left. At the end of those fighting-back years, I knew there was nothing I could do to promote solutions or change. In a way, I feel like I copped out and let women down but I was done. Period.
That industry had (has) few women in it anyways and the few there either believed they were one of the boys or re: the second group, they just plain didn’t see it( or didn’t want to see it).
And I get it to some extent. When I started in that industry, I made excuses all the time for the bad behavior because…I had a career to build. Had anyone asked in those days I probably would have said “ whatcha talking about?”🙄
Before starting and doing the interview circuit I should have paid attention to the hint of what was to come when one higher up man said “ Now tell me honey, why would a cute little girl like you want a job in this industry?”
Or when I was “in” for a few years and doing gangbuster results, I had a meeting with our CEO about expanding my “territory” to include a larger city. He leaned forward over his desk ( the guy was a giant in ego and body mass) and said “ I bet you have a boyfriend in xxx city and that’s why you want to spend more time working there.”
Fucking depressing because it’s still going on. And the above are just two little tidbits from a huge pile.
