Home run again! This is such a great review. With added tips and examples. Absolutely useful. Into my saved and starred article file it goes. Thank you again, Linda.
Re this excerpt: Most readers leave a page in under 15 seconds. It’s called the 15 second rule. Basically, they bounce.
Last night I was reading an old school hard copy book. Part life story of how author got there/part how to. (Ah will always have a soft spot for mah hard covered babies regardless of my huge Kindle library)
Anyways. All chapters were 4 or 6 pages long. Good writing style, but mountains of text. I was getting bored (first a bit, and then increasingly).I stuck with it only because I was looking for something. Otherwise I would have snapped the cover shut.
You nailed the problem in your article just now. SUBHEADS! That would have made all the difference.
Extra take away: your advice applies not only to eBooks and articles. Ditto to the good ol’ hard/soft cover variety.
