I just added Vocal+ to my inventory. So far so good. My plan is to continue with both Medium and Vocal. Maybe add Newsbreak but not certain. Have you joined Newsbreak?

I totally agree with the ability to make connections on Medium. I value that aspect beyond words. On Vocal, connections are almost impossible.

I did have a very good experience editing a published Vocal post, though. A contact form produced a response from Vocal in a day or so, they returned the story to my drafts, I did my edits and they republished it. Easy. Yet not as simple as Medium makes it.
