Hey Jan. Well. This is another winner of yours. No question it will reguire more and more discuaaion in the next months. Sigh.

A radiologist friend of mine just told me that "people" were telling him that when health care workers get priority for the vaccine, he should NOT be included. Because, hey, he is only a radiologist.

Yet he goes to work at the hospital daily, breathes the circulated air and makes frequent daily trips to ER and ICU.

So there you have it.

Because of his story and your article, I am ( for a moment) letting my imagination run wild with complicated pretend scenarios:

Patient arrives at hospital with covid and a bunch of other medical complications. Because cases are not always pristine, hello! Yet the staff orthopedic surgeon, radiologist, obgyn, gastro, etc doctors cannot consult because hey, no vaccine for them! Patient with complications is SOL.

Or maybe ER and ICU just keeps a master list of medical specialities deemed unimportant for early vaccines. Then covid patients needing consults from any of these specialties are either turned away at admitting or the broken bone in their arm sits untended because hey, no specialist.

It just gets stupid.

Of course then there is the thing about the health care worker's misson to care for everyone, including: people wearing masks, anti maskers, anti vaxxers, people doing all the good stuff to prevent covid's spread, the covid deniers, those sick because of the anti maskers and deniers.

Health care workers give to the sick and they get sick.

In my mind there is no question, we first take care or those currently taking care of: the sick and the soon to be sick not at the door of ER today but maybe tomorrow...

Whoops. This was a rant!

Really, really good piece, Jan.

Funny our timing. You wrote this Dec 6. I posted yesterday ( 11th). Not about vaccines but a bunch of other stuff showing how similar we are in our thought processes. No wonder we instantly connected on Medium!

Will try and email you soon. The time flies by, huh.

xxo
