Hello Susan. Thank you for such a well researched and interesting article. Also thanks for the follow. I will finish writing this comment to you and flick back to your profile and immediately reciprocate.

You are correct and I do believe the increasing acceptance of gray hair in women is a huge step forward. About time.

A dear friend of mine, not yet 32 years old is almost totally gray. She looks amazing. Thanks to you Susan, I now have a term for her to use that is guaranteed to please her.

Why look for a female equivalent of “ silver fox”? We already use “ dude” and “ guys” for both genders. No need to create female versions. “Silver fox” is perfect for men and women. It’s a great expression.

Sure the origins of “ dude”, “ guys” and “ silver fox” did not take into account women. Part of the sexism and misogyny we deal with. But re: those three terms( and any other similar ones)… who cares that they were first anointed to boys. Let’s just forget that and use ‘em ourselves. As we currently do with “ dude” and “guy”.

I am not a silver fox. Not yet anyways. A fox, yes. But a blonde highlighted medium-to-dark-brown roots one!

Recently I decided to ditch an industry and career that is extremely unwelcoming to women. Well…women as “servants” and women under the age of 30 are sort of accepted. (That age restriction has little to do with job performance, but I’m certain you assumed that)

All to say: If I started sporting a gray hair or two, that would not have worked in that environment. Especially since I pursued (and achieved, btw) a career on the same starring level as some of the boys. My impressive stats on my job performance were already discounted (huh?) because of my gender. Would only make matters worse if they thought I was inching close to 40 age wise.

So ridiculous.

But now I am outa there…. YES!

Hmmm. Next hair appointment I might just check out if and where the gray hairs are lurking. Just before they slap on the foils and dye🙀😀
