Gillian. thanks. Really helpful. Re the part I highlighted above. That among many other things is what really impresses me about you.
May I ask how you fit in the amount of engagement you do? On top of everything else that requires your time? It really stands out (and it’s remarkable) when a writer/reader sees someone as successful as you take the time to engage to the extent that you do with your followers/readers.
I see a number of successful writers on Medium do as you do. Yet I appreciate how time consuming it is.
I firmly believe that a big part of being a member of the Medium community is an fair combination of writing, commenting and reading. All three. I do my best to do all of these, but I do see the time it takes. So yeah, how do you manage to fit this all in? You, with thousands of followers and me not quite at the first 1000.
I don’t ask this question for any other reason except to get your feedback on the time issue and any tips you have on the topic. I certainly will appreciate feedback from you and any other readers.
Bottomline, I think that what you do: engaging by reading and commenting on your own readers’, commenters’ and followers’ posts. The importance of each of us doing this to the best of our abilities cannot be minimized.
So much good comes from these engagement activities, in addition to having one’s own work read. Just to name a few examples: I am thinking of the learning, the honing of one’s writing craft, the warm, supportive and generous Medium friendships. So much more.
