A simple definition and the best one.
Tina, thank you for this story. It is an example of more. More like it are needed. This one is so practical and relatable.
Your story made me say toward the end: 1. Excellent and 2. Better late than never.
I also have occasionally run into the equivalent of the woman you updated in the women’s bathroom. In these instances, some did find the whole thing funny and had no clue about the career and other implications tied to the remarks. (Which btw, ultimately are economic and when grouped with women elsewhere experiencing this, negatively impact the economy)
Then even more concerning, were the random women thinking this type of treatment from males meant that they now “existed”. As in: “ Well, he obviously likes my butt(insert any body part) maybe that means he likes me and if he likes me, gee whiz that means I am something. So bring it on.”
To be clear, I am using my own words to illustrate . The actual comments were similar and all different. Yet the message was the same. “How can that kind of talk/those actions be wrong if they make me feel special, make me feel like I count?”
The day all women internalize that they count on their own merit as a person. The day GS’s message above rings true. That will be THE day.
